CHICAGO (AP) - Illinois State Police are crediting a snowplow driver with helping stop a drunken driver who was traveling the wrong way along a downtown Chicago interstate.

Authorities say a man was driving north in a van in southbound lanes on the Kennedy Expressway just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

An Illinois Department of Transportation snowplow driver was plowing the reversible express lanes when he got in front of the oncoming van, slowed down and helped bring it to a stop.

Investigators say the van’s driver managed to take out six gates when he entered the express lanes. He was charged with driver under in the influence.

No one was injured, but the van was damaged.
