ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Registration is open for the four summer camps run by the Department of Environmental Conservation in the Adirondacks, southern Catskills and western New York.
Children 11 to 17 years old can attend a week at camp and learn about the environment and engage in outdoor activities such as shooting, fishing, hiking and canoeing.
Campers can take hunter or bow hunter education courses during their stay to qualify for their sporting license. For the first time, the state is offering the trapper education course at Camp Rushford in western New York and Camp Colby in the Adirondacks.
The cost is $350 for a week at camp. Register at www.dec.ny.gov/education/29.html .
