GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina coroner says a man shot to death by law officers at a Gaffney campground was hit by four bullets.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said Saturday an autopsy on 53-year-old Clint McKinney found he died from one of the gunshot wounds inflicted by officers. Fowler did not specify where McKinney was hit by the fatal shot.
Fowler said the result of a toxicology test could take eight weeks.
Cherokee County deputies said McKinney on Friday led state troopers on a chase ending at a KOA Kampground in Gaffney, where he lived in a camper. Authorities say McKinney locked himself inside and when deputies went to the camper’s door he fired on officers, who fired back.
The State Law Enforcement Division is on the case involving law officers.
