LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Some officers of a University of Nebraska-Lincoln fraternity have received more than 60 fire code violations in connection with an off-campus chapter house.

The Lincoln-Journal Star reports (https://bit.ly/1dVrXlz ) three officers of the Sigma Nu chapter face the violations, including smoke detector violations and blocked exits. Two other members face citations in connection with alleged intentional damage to the building.

Firefighters responded to the property Sunday following a fire alarm call. Authorities say a hand-held fire extinguisher and household cleaning supplies in the basement caused a haze and chemical smell throughout the house. Trash and several bottles of alcohol were found.

The fire code violations forced inspectors to ban the 50 or so residents. The national Sigma Nu office later suspended the chapter’s activities pending an investigation.
