SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A 25-year-old Syracuse man accused of killing a pizza shop owner during a robbery last fall is to be arraigned this morning in county court.
Eric Woody was indicted earlier this month on first- and second-degree murder charges, and criminal possession of a weapon. He faces a rare first-degree murder charge because the killing happened during a robbery.
Woody is accused in the Oct. 1 shooting death of the owner of Sabatino’s Pizza and Deli on the crime-ridden south side of the city. Police say the victim attempted to reason with Woody before he was shot.
Woody is believed to be a member of the Bloods gang, but police say the murder does not appear to be gang-related.
The robbery was captured on the store’s surveillance camera.
