NAPLES, Fla. (AP) - A southwest Florida funeral home is adding an unusual new amenity: wine.
Hodges Funeral Home is installing a wine room. It’s a space where families can congregate for a death-adjacent catered reception, a modern substitute for an hour-long sobfest on wooden church pews.
Funeral director and general manager Seth Minso admits a few people were apprehensive when he first pitched the idea.
But he says more and more people wanted celebrations of life instead of funerals. He added that Naples also has a lot of wine lovers.
The Naples Daily News (https://bit.ly/1dSpw3n) reports that the wine room is so new it has only been used for a handful of internal events. Families can rent the room and have a catered reception with wine service and their choice of music.
