ASHEBORO, N.C. (AP) - The forecast for cold and windy weather is causing the North Carolina Zoo to close for one day.
The zoo in Asheboro will close Friday, when temperatures are forecast to remain well below freezing with wind chills in the single digits. Most African animals in outdoor exhibits will remain in off-exhibit holding facilities throughout the day.
Temperatures are forecast to read the mid-40s this weekend, and the zoo is expected to resume its regular winter operating hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
