CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A former Junior ROTC instructor at a Kanawha County high school faces up to 20 years in prison after entering a Kennedy plea to having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
Forty-four-year-old Martin Dale Kirby entered his plea Thursday to sexual abuse by a person of trust in Kanawha County Circuit Court. Under the Kennedy rule, a defendant doesn’t admit guilt.
Media outlets reports Kirby was hired as a Junior ROTC instructor at George Washington High School in 2010.
Kirby’s sentencing is scheduled for March 11.
