COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say an Alabama man was shot at a Columbus motel and later died, marking the west Georgia city’s first homicide of the year.
Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley said 39-year-old Troy Saunders of Fort Mitchell, Ala., was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. Friday.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (https://bit.ly/1ejh0W0) that Saunders was shot at a Super 8 Motel on Warm Springs Road.
The newspaper reported that crime scene tape was set up Friday morning on the back side of the motel as police investigated the shooting. Saunders’ body was expected to be taken to Atlanta for an autopsy.
Worley said Saunders had been living with his sister in Fort Mitchell.
