MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont House is set to consider a midyear budget adjustment bill that increases funding for out-of-state prison beds and saves some money on a reduced caseload in a key welfare-to-work program.

State officials say the increased use of out-of-state prison beds - at a cost of about $1.5 million - is due mainly to the increased use of in-state beds for pre-trial detainees.

The reduced spending in the Reach Up job training program is due to a reduction in households enrolled from a projected 6,700 to about 6,300.

The House expected to give the package of budget changes preliminary approval on Thursday and final approval on Friday.
