OAKLEY, Calif. (AP) - An 11-year-old boy died of a gunshot wound in a Northern California home Wednesday night.

The Oakley Police were called to a home on the 1300 block of Yosemite Circle shortly after 7 p.m., and officers discovered the boy with a gunshot wound.

The boy was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The Contra Costa Times reports (https://bit.ly/19P8yBJ ) that a preliminary police investigation indicated that the boy may have accidentally shot himself.

The paper says investigators did not release the name of the boy or the type of gun. They also didn’t say whether any adults were home at the time of the shooting.

Neighbors gathered outside the home said they hadn’t heard gunshots, and some said they weren’t aware a child lived there, the Contra Costa Times reports.
