NAPLES, Fla. (AP) - State wildlife officials say an endangered panther has been killed by a vehicle in southwest Florida.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports that the 1 1/2-year-old male was found dead Wednesday in rural Collier County.
It is the third panther death of 2014, the second involving a vehicle.
A necropsy is planned at FWC’s laboratory in Gainesville.
Florida panthers once roamed the entire southeastern U.S., but only around 160 remain in the wild.
