DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware’s governor has lifted a limited state of emergency he declared as the state began to recover from a winter storm that brought snow, icy temperatures and high winds to the East Coast.
Gov. Jack Markell lifted the state of emergency as of 10 a.m. Wednesday but said motorists should still exercise caution, especially on back roads and areas that tend to become icy.
Road crews continue to plow and salt roads, but officials note that low temperatures limit the effectiveness of salt, and temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for several days.
The emergency declaration, which took effect at 2 p.m. Tuesday, had included an official warning that motorists must use extra caution, and that nonessential government and private sector employees should stay off the roads if possible.
