PITTSFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A sheriff in western Illinois’ Pike County says a jail inmate awaiting sentencing in a federal drug case killed himself in the county’s jail.
Sheriff Paul Petty tells the Quincy Herald-Whig (https://bit.ly/1hj0Wqt ) that the body of 42-year-old Scott Roan of Quincy was found early Monday in his cell in the Pike County Jail in Pittsfield, which is near the Mississippi River.
Petty says he doesn’t suspect foul play in Roan’s death, though Illinois State Police are investigating.
Roan pleaded guilty last week to one count of possessing pseudoephedrine with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine.
His sentencing was scheduled for May 19.
