PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) - Kitsap County prosecutors have taken the unusual step of charging the lawyer for a defendant.

Port Orchard defense lawyer Dennis X. Goss was charged Tuesday with perjury.

The Kitsap Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1c3NLtB ) he’s accused of encouraging a client to sign a false statement to hide the lawyer’s romantic interest in the client’s wife.

Goss says he’s the target of a vendetta by the prosecutor’s office.

The case involves Tyler F. Williams who was charged with promoting prostitution, cocaine dealing and witness tampering. He pleaded guilty last week.

Last year, prosecutors attempted to have Goss removed because of his alleged interest in Williams’ wife. Williams said the allegation was fiction but later told investigators he signed an untruthful declaration to keep Goss so he wouldn’t be “stuck” with a public defender.
