FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - A Pinal County man is accused of making a false report of a crime to police along with burglary and attempted escape.
County sheriff’s say 23-year-old Alfredo Aurtuno barged into a neighbor’s home Tuesday morning in an unincorporated area of Maricopa.
Aurtuno allegedly told the woman he had been shot, someone was trying to kill him and his family was being held captive.
Sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical personal determined that Aurtuno had not been shot and appeared to be on drugs.
Deputies say they searched his home and a neighbor’s home and found no sign of Aurtuno’s family.
Aurtuno is from Mexico and told deputies he was in the country illegally.
They say he unsuccessfully tried to escape after he was arrested. It’s unclear if Aurtuno has a lawyer.
