GAUTIER, Miss. (AP) - The city of Gautier will use a $99,840 grant to improve 5,000 linear feet of trails at Shepard State Park.

The Mississippi Press reports (https://bit.ly/1mGbOmi ) that the money came from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

Motorized vehicles will not be allowed on the trails.

MDWFP administrator Jean Caraway said the project should start within 60 days and be completed before June 30. Some 5,000 linear feet of trail will be made more accessible. A 1500-foot boardwalk, concrete pavers, 100 trail markers, trail map and more parking are included.

Councilman Casey Vaughan says a local civic club is going to participate by repairing a bridge that leads to the trails.
