NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - State utility regulators have authorized a 1.9 percent rate increase for the Connecticut Natural Gas company.

The final ruling was issued Wednesday by Connecticut’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority.

The company had sought a 6 percent increase as it builds out under a state-approved plan to expand natural gas service to about 280,000 new customers throughout Connecticut over the next decade.

Connecticut Natural Gas provides service to about 165,500 customers in the greater Hartford area and southwestern Connecticut.
