BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - The rush is on to start construction of Biloxi’s minor league baseball stadium.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled Thursday, and Doug Dale with Dale Partners Architects told the Biloxi City Council it is imperative work begins right away.
He presented a tentative schedule that calls for the council to approve the $21 million bond issue at the Jan. 28 meeting and for the stadium to be substantially complete by May 2015.
The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1fZ8P86 ) the council hasn’t yet signed the lease with the team owners and MGM Grand for the land, but as proposed the contract calls for the city paying damages of $10,000 for each home game the stadium isn’t ready after March 28, 2015.
Dale said the stadium will seat between 5,000 and 6,000 people.
