EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - The Snohomish County sheriff’s office says a 52-year-old man died in an avalanche while climbing on Lewis Peak, east of Verlot, Wash.

The county medical examiner’s office identified the man Tuesday as Franklin Bradshaw of Mukilteo, Wash.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton says Bradshaw was climbing last Saturday when he reportedly stepped out on an overhanging edge of snow that collapsed and triggered an avalanche.

Lt. Steve Dittoe says Bradshaw had reached the summit. He reportedly was with another climber who was not hurt.

Search and rescue units responded and recovered the body late Sunday.
