MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - The city of Mitchell’s sales tax collections dropped nearly 3 percent in 2013 compared to 2012.

The Daily Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1e9Uyym ) the city collected $10.4 million from its 2 percent sales tax in 2013.

In 2012, the city’s sales tax generated nearly $10.7 million. That was a record amount and a 9.2 percent increase from 2011.

City Finance Officer Marilyn Wilson says the record collections set in 2012 was due in part to money spent to repair homes from a large hailstorm.
