PHOENIX (AP) - A fiery crash on Interstate 17 in Phoenix has left one man dead and sent two people to hospitals.

The Arizona Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1f7Xyxo ) that Phoenix fire Capt. Tony Mure says a tractor-trailer hit a motorcyclist and then a minivan carrying two adults and four children, ages 3 to 13, Monday afternoon.

Mure says the motorcyclist swerved to avoid hitting several canisters of gas that fell from a flatbed truck.

A canister exploded and engulfed the tractor-trailer in flames.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Carrick Cook says the motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, died at a hospital. The adults in the minivan were transported to hospitals with injuries that weren’t life-threatening. The children and tractor-trailer driver escaped injury.

Authorities were searching for the flatbed-truck driver.
