BEND, Ore. (AP) - A lawyer who represents a Central Oregon journalist says she didn’t have sex with a Bend police officer who has resigned in the wake of an investigation into his encounters.
Attorney Thomas McDermott said the officer, Lt. Chris Carney, once kissed the woman, but “then apologized for his mistake and that was the end of it.”
Investigators found Carney misled them during the probe, but Police Chief Jeff Sale said the journalist wasn’t contacted to corroborate Carney’s statement that he had sex with her.
The Bend Bulletin said McDermott told the newspaper (https://bit.ly/1bgmmR1) the reporter wasn’t from the Bulletin.
Neither McDermott nor the police investigation report publicly identified her.
The report said Carney, a public information officer, also had sex with three city workers, including encounters when on duty.
