CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - An autopsy has determined that drowning was the cause of death for a southeast Missouri woman whose body was found in the backseat of a car submerged in the Mississippi River.
The Southeast Missourian (https://bit.ly/1mkviKj ) reports that Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton announced autopsy results on Sunday for 62-year-old Autumn D. Vinson of Jackson. Cape Girardeau police said Friday that her body was found inside a Pontiac Bonneville in 5-6 feet of water.
What led the vehicle to go into the water remains under investigation. Authorities have also not determined how long the car was in the river.
A passer-by spotted the antenna and roof of the vehicle Friday morning and contacted police.
