Fifty-nine percent of likely voters favor a ban on semi-automatic, military-style weapons, which have gotten heightened attention in the wake of recent mass shootings, while just 18 percent think there should be a complete handgun ban in the U.S.
Thirty-three percent disagree that there should be “a ban on the purchase of semi-automatic and assault-type weapons,” according to a Rasmussen Reports poll released Thursday.
But voters do say they’d feel safer in a neighborhood where guns are allowed. Seven in 10 say they would feel safer moving to a neighborhood where people could have a gun for their own protection versus moving to a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun.
The survey of 1,000 likely voters was taken Dec. 29-30 and has a margin of error of three percentage points.
