MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Bishop Peter Libasci says he looks forward to congratulating a new cardinal who has ties to the state.

Gerald Cyprien Lacroix, the archbishop of Quebec, Canada, is one of 19 churchmen that Pope Francis will install as new cardinals in a Vatican ceremony on Feb. 22.

Libasci says from a very early age, Lacroix was filled with the desire to bring the Gospel to the world. That desire was nurtured by his family and his active membership in Manchester’s Pius X Secular Institute.

The 56-year-old Lacroix graduated from Trinity High School and studied at St. Anselm College.

Libasci says he looks forward to seeing Lacroix during a pilgrimage to Quebec in July to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the founding of Notre Dame du Quebec.
