CHICAGO (AP) - U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk has treated his colleagues to a spread of some of Illinois’ best-known foods, including Chicago-style pizza, Eli’s cheesecake and Portillo’s hot dogs.

The Illinois Republican welcomed his GOP colleagues for their weekly lunch earlier this week in Washington, D.C. The lunches highlight a specific state each week when the Senate is in session.

Kirk noted the “countless innovators and famous celebrities” that call Illinois home, as well as some of the nation’s largest employers.

Each member also received a gift: A miniature tin of Garrett’s popcorn and a jar of BBQ rub from the 17th Street BBQ in Murphysboro.

Kirk says no taxpayer funds were used for the lunch or the gifts.
