ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) - A civil lawsuit accuses a former state trooper of beating a Saltillo man who drove around a roadblock in 2012 has been assigned to a new federal judge.
Records show U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock recused herself Wednesday from the case in which John Hawn alleges ex-trooper Christopher Hughes beat him after he failed to stop at a roadblock Hughes was conducting. Aycock gave no reason for the action.
The case was reassigned to District Judge Glen H. Davidson.
The trial is set for Oct. 6 In federal court in Aberdeen.
Hughes is currently in federal prison, serving a 33-month sentence after he pleaded guilty February 2013 to depriving a woman of her civil rights by beating her in the Lee County Jail.
