BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama pastor charged with killing his wife last summer has been released from jail after posting a $100,000 bond.
Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1dEKB19 ) 53-year-old Richard Shahan (SHAY-han) left the Jefferson County Jail on Friday evening. Attorney John Lentine said Shahan was going to be with his family.
Shahan, who served as a minister at First Baptist Church of Birmingham, is charged with murder in the July death of his wife, Karen Louise Shahan, at their home in the Birmingham suburb of Homewood. He was arrested New Year’s Day in Nashville, Tenn., while trying to board a plane to Germany. Prosecutors said at a Thursday bond hearing that emails indicated Shahan did not plan to return to the U.S.
Terms of Shahan’s bond say he must remain under house arrest.
