TIOGA, N.D. (AP) - Unofficial results show that voters in the western oil patch city of Tioga have approved a $9.9 million bond issue to pay for the expansion of existing schools.

KXMC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1b7JzVu ) that 218 voters were in favor Thursday and only 81 were opposed. That’s 73 percent approval, far higher than the 60 percent required.

The Tioga school district has seen its student body more than double in recent years due to the oil boom. The expansion project will add on to both the elementary school and high school.

Superintendent D’Wayne Johnson says the plan will raise property taxes on a $200,000 home by about $256 a year.
