TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The main public library in downtown Tucson will remain closed through Monday due to smoke damage from a car fire in the underground garage.

The Joel D. Valdez Main Library was evacuated Friday morning because of smoke from the fire in a parking area below the library.

Pima County officials say no one was injured.

According to Librarian Tom Farmer, the alarm went off at about 8:50 a.m. before the library’s scheduled 9 a.m. opening time.

Those evacuated went to nearby plazas.

Officials say all county public library locations are closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Civil Rights Day.

They say the Valdez Main Library may be reopened on Tuesday.
