LAS VEGAS (AP) - New signs at McCarran airport in Las Vegas may help tourists avoid a taxi ride rip-off.

The Nevada Taxicab Authority unveiled signs Friday that estimate how long a ride should take and how much it should cost to get to different destinations in town.

The signs aim to curb long-hauling, the practice of drivers taking a roundabout route to run up the meter on a cab. Passengers unfamiliar with Las Vegas often can’t tell whether a ride is longer than it should be.

The charts will be on display at two doors on Terminal 1 and near the taxi staging area at Terminal 3.

Long-hauling is illegal, but cab drivers are allowed to take longer, alternate routes to avoid traffic if the passenger gives them permission.
