MAKANDA, Ill. (AP) - Southern Illinois authorities say a 28-year-old man is facing a first-degree murder charge for the slaying of a Missouri woman whose body was found along a Jackson County road.

Brandon L. Banks was arrested Thursday evening in St. Louis after Illinois authorities issued a first-degree murder warrant for the death of 40-year-old Marsha Ann Brown.

Both Banks and Brown are from Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Brown’s body was found Tuesday in tall weeds in a small embankment near Makanda (muh-KAN’-duh).

Authorities have not released details about the cause of her death.

It’s not clear if Banks has an attorney or when he’ll be brought back to Illinois.

Meanwhile, a funeral for Brown is scheduled to take place Monday evening in Jackson, Mo.
