CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to at least 28 years in prison for a 2012 killing in Charlotte.
The Charlotte Observer reported (https://bit.ly/1avfIWV) that 34-year-old Ralph Lewis Gettys was convicted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Raymona Abraham.
Investigators said Gettys was a bouncer at an illegal liquor house when he got into a confrontation with Abraham, who was unarmed. Investigators say Gettys pulled a gun and shot Abraham three times. He died at the scene.
Gettys said he acted in self-defense. He testified that Abraham and another man had threatened to kill him and he thought both men were armed.
