JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have arrested the man accused of selling a handgun used in a shooting that left three people wounded aboard a commuter train in New Jersey.

Port Authority police say 28-year-old Julio Mella of Jersey City transported the 9 mm pistol from Newport News, Va., to New Jersey with the intent to sell it to 34-year-old Tari Turpin of East Orange.

Authorities say a Turpin apparently fell into a woman on a PATH train and was confronted by her brother on Aug. 25. Authorities believe Turpin started shooting and hit the woman in the ankle and another man in the hand before he shot himself in the leg.

Mella is held on $40,000 bail, charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and improper transportation and disposition of a firearm.
