FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - A Coppermine woman who had been caring for an unrelated 2-year-old is facing charges in the child’s death.

An indictment filed in federal court accuses Audrey James of involuntary manslaughter, assault resulting in serious bodily injury and child abuse resulting in death. Authorities say the cause of the child’s death in March is listed as blunt force trauma.

James was arrested earlier this week and had her initial appearance Thursday in federal magistrate court in Flagstaff. A detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

James’ court-appointed attorney declined comment.
