CLINTON, Ill. (AP) - Wildlife officials say changes in water temperature are to blame for a central Illinois fish kill.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports (https://bit.ly/1auXftG ) more than 5,300 dead fish were found this week in Clinton Lake. The dead fish included walleye, bass, crappie and channel catfish.

Tim Schweizer is a spokesman for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

He says abrupt changes in water temperature “are not uncommon at a power plant lake.”

The DeWitt County lake is near one of Exelon’s nuclear power plants.
