FALLSBURG, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the cause of a car crash in the Catskills that claimed the lives of two men riding in the vehicle.
Police in the Sullivan County town of Fallsburg tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown (https://bit.ly/1i5374I ) that 20-year-old Fransico Ortiz Jr. was driving a car that crossed into oncoming traffic, sideswiped another vehicle before hitting a tree and a fire hydrant around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police say Ortiz and his passenger, 34-year-old Christoval Chirino, were killed in the crash. Both men lived in South Fallsburg, located 80 miles northwest of New York City.
Officers say speed appears to have been a factor, but the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
