SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) - A fire official says two people were burned and one of them had to be rescued from a fire that extensively damaged a Springfield, Ore., duplex.
The Register-Guard reports that firefighters worked quickly Thursday afternoon to rescue a teenage boy. The boy’s injured mother got out of the burning home and then told neighbors she could not find her son. Neighbors told the newspaper she tried to go back in and rescue him but they stopped her.
Eugene-Springfield Deputy Chief Randy DeWitt says both people were sent to a hospital. There was no immediate word on their condition.
Crews kept the fire from spreading to the other side of the duplex. However, DeWitt says those occupants have been displaced.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
