MAKANDA, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in Jackson County hope an autopsy offers more details about the death of a woman whose body was found along a southern Illinois road.

Investigators say they’ve preliminarily identified the body of the 40-year-old woman found Tuesday near Makanda (muh-KAN’-duh). But they don’t plan to publicly release her name until after Wednesday’s autopsy.

The body was in tall weeds and down a small embankment.

Illinois State Police are assisting in the investigation.
