BURKE, Va. (AP) - Police say a Manassas woman has died after being struck by a commuter train.
The woman, 22-year-old Danyelle Lynn Anderson, was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday morning after being struck by a Virginia Railway Express train near the Burke station.
Fairfax County Police say the train was traveling south from Washington to Manassas shortly before 7 a.m. when the accident occurred. Conditions were dark and foggy, and police say an engineer hit the emergency brake as soon as he saw the woman after rounding a slight curve. The train slowed down but still hit the woman as she walked across the southbound track.
Police say the death was accidental.
