READING, Pa. (AP) - An eastern Pennsylvania man who spent years on the lam has been ordered held for trial on charges he killed his estranged wife.
The Reading Eagle (https://bit.ly/1eE0mBN) said a Berks County judge decided Wednesday that prosecutors have sufficient evidence against 43-year-old Miguel Torres to proceed with the murder case against him.
Torres has been held without bail on first-degree murder charges since Nov. 22, when he was returned to Reading from Bologna, Italy. He was captured several months earlier by Italian authorities working with the U.S. Marshals Service.
Authorities say Torres ambushed and gunned down his estranged wife Barbara West-Torres in 2005 after she obtained a protective order against him.
Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty, a condition of the extradition.
