ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state is making $20 million available to dairy farmers to turn waste into energy.

The money through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority will go toward the installation of anaerobic digesters, which make electricity and heat from organic wastes like manure.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says that starting Friday, farms, food processors and municipal wastewater sites will be eligible for up to $2 million per project. Eligible projects will be funded on a first-come, first-served basis.
