LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania man who won a new trial after being convicted in a fatal stabbing has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the case.
The Daily Item (https://bit.ly/1eE24mD) said 21-year-old Seth Hornberger of Mifflinburg entered the plea Wednesday in Union County Court. He was immediately sentenced to 3 to 6 years in prison with credit for 2 years and 54 days already served.
A Snyder County jury convicted Hornberger of third-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in the March 2011 stabbing death of 22-year-old Alan Martin.
Hornberger said he was trying to protect a friend being assaulted by Martin in the kitchen of a Selinsgrove apartment.
He was granted a new trial after successfully appealing his conviction on the grounds that the trial judge had given faulty instructions to the jury.
