PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Fire officials say a high-rise apartment fire in the heart of downtown Philadelphia has left one man dead.
The blaze broke out shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday inside a 10th-floor unit of the 12-story apartment building at 13th and Walnut streets.
The building was evacuated and the fire was quickly brought under control but police said the 60-year-old victim suffered smoke inhalation and a heart attack. Authorities said he was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died.
Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the blaze.
The historic structure is a former hotel designed by architect Horace Trumbauer and built from 1901 to 1904.
