BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) - The former president of the Cape Cod chapter of the Disabled American Veterans has been ordered held on $5,000 bail after pleading not guilty to stealing $125,000 from the organization.
Richard Allen Trott Sr. was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of larceny of over $250.
Prosecutors allege the 62-year-old Trott withdrew money from the accounts of the Hyannis-based chapter of the Disabled American Veterans via ATM withdrawals and checks made out to himself between 2009 and 2011.
Trott told the Cape Cod Times (https://bit.ly/1eJcUdp ) that he is innocent. Trott’s lawyer asked that he be released on personal recognizance because he is the sole caretaker of his 10-year-old granddaughter. The girl has been handed over to other relatives.
Other members of the DAV say they feel angry and betrayed.
