RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) - The state Department of Ecology has set a Feb. 15 deadline for the Department of Energy to come up with a new plan for dealing with a leaking double-walled tank at Hanford.
Ecology officials are disappointed with the Department of Energy’s previous plan for dealing with Tank AY-102.
KONA-AM reports that Ecology wants a plan that pumps all the nuclear waste from the tank.
The tanks contain waste left over from the production of plutonium for nuclear weapons.
