RENO, Nev. (AP) - A new center at the University of Nevada, Reno aims to help businesses protect against cyber security breaches.

UNR Provost Kevin Carman tells the Reno Gazette-Journal (https://on.rgj.com/1lXdFmm ) that the center will include a strong alliance with the private sector.

It will also address cyber security issues important to economic development, such as banking, health care, data centers, online gambling, energy and the military.

Besides seeking ways to prevent cyber information from being stolen or tampered with, the center will educate students in related fields and conduct research.

The Cyber Security Center was approved by the Board of Regents in December.
