PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A 15-year-old Providence girl injured in a hit-and-run accident says the driver left the scene after apologizing and telling her to be more careful.

Alyssa Guzman was struck while walking to her high school Monday morning. She’s in stable condition at Hasbro Children’s Hospital with back and neck trauma and several bruises.

Guzman told WJAR-TV (https://bit.ly/1aZgBqz ) that she was hit by a tan minivan turning at Dorrance and Westminster streets. She says the driver rolled down his window, said he was sorry and told her to watch where she was crossing next time.

Her mother, Vicky Guzman, said she doesn’t understand why the driver didn’t stop or call 911.

Police are looking for the driver. Alyssa described him as about 40 years old with dark skin and a foreign accent.
