LYMAN, S.C. (AP) - A Lyman police officer has been charged with destroying evidence.

The State Law Enforcement Division said Monday that 44-year-old Michael Gerald Hames had been arrested and charged with misconduct in office and obstructing justice.

SLED says Hames destroyed evidence from an active investigation in August. State police have not given more details about the investigation or what evidence was destroyed.

Town officials say Hames is on administrative leave. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.
